St. John’s Episcopal Church - Sunday, April 22, 2018

From Fr. Ray+

Beginning this coming Sunday, April 29, the Adult Sunday School Class will be using material from the DVD and book Fear of the Other, by retired Methodist Bishop Will Willimon.  The publisher describes this book as follows:

Tolerate one another.  Wait.  Isn’t that supposed to be love one another?  It’s one thing to genuinely love people who are more or less the same as we are, but what about those who are not only strangers, but people who live completely different lives?  Reliable spiritual guide Will Willimon invites you to look more closely at the gospel’s command to love—because to genuinely love those considered to be "Other" may be the hardest thing for people of faith to do.

Melody Rogers and I will be sharing responsibility for leading this class on Sunday mornings.  If there is sufficient interest, I am willing to lead the class in a weekday setting, too.  If interested, please let me know.

What is the Christian response in a world that is increasingly polarized by politics, religion, economics, race, class and other “isms?”  How do we go about loving those who are different from us, whether they be across the street or on the other side of the globe?  These and other questions will be considered.  You are invited to join us at 9:15 on Sunday mornings.

Blessings, Fr. Ray +

Young life of Phillips County is actively sharing the gospel with area teens.  They want to share their mission and story with local residents.  Ben and I are hosting a table at a banquet for Younglife.  It is Thursday, April 26, from 6:30 - 8:00pm in the fine arts center at PCCUA.  We can invite 6 people to sit at our table.  If anyone is interested in hearing what Younglife is about and how they are impacting the lives of local teens, please give me a call.  My number is 870-714-0358.  We are fortunate to have this organization in our area!  We will have the pleasure of listening to some of the teenagers that attend, and I can't wait to hear how God is working in their lives!

Thanks!  Julie Pittman
