St. John’s Episcopal Church

FROM FR. RAY+

I am happy to let you know we are planning to reopen St. John’s for worship on Sunday, June 7! We will meet at our traditional time of 10:30 a.m. The St. John’s vestry will be meeting Monday, June 1, to iron out the final details of our reopening. While there will  be other precautions that come out of our meeting, I can say with certainty that we will be observing physical distancing along with requiring everyone present to wear facemasks. Hopefully, everyone has their own mask by now.  If you do not have one, we are planning to have some available at the door as you enter. Marjie is looking into places where we can order additional masks.  If you know of a place we can buy masks by the box, please let Marjie know.

Although Sunday School will not start back on June 7, the vestry will be discussing when and how to resume our adult Sunday School class. I am hopeful that will be sometime within the next couple of weeks.

The vestry will also be discussing how to make Sunday worship available to those who choose not to come back to church just yet.  Many of our members and friends are considered to be in the high risk category. As such, the vestry and I are asking each person to carefully consider whether they should return to worship on June 7 or put off returning until a later date.

I am working with Nolan Dean to figure out the best way we can live stream our Sunday worship for those who choose to stay home at this time. I hope to have more details about that in the near future. In the meantime, we will continue to email a prerecorded service to you for May 24 and 31.

I realize you probably have questions about the specifics of our reopening on June 7.  Please be assured that the vestry and I will be working out these details over the course of the next two weeks and will keep you informed as we do so. While we are excited about reopening, we are committed to doing so in a safe and responsible way.

The only thing that would prevent us from reopening on June 7 would be an increase in local Covid-19 infections. We are hoping and praying that does not happen. However, if it does we will have to reevaluate our decision to reopen.

Please keep our vestry in your prayers as they work through the details of our reopening.

Blessings,

Fr. Ray+
