St. John’s Episcopal Church - Sunday, May 10, 2020

More than a few folks have asked me lately if I know when we will be resuming in person worship at St. John’s.   With our Governor opening up churches as of this coming Sunday, May 10, it makes sense that folks are wondering if we are going to be open as of that date.  Bishop Benfield has made it clear that while we do look forward to when we can resume gathering for worship, his decision will be guided by information provided by the CDC and by evidence that the infection curve in Arkansas has definitely flattened.  When we do resume gathering for worship we will be following social distancing guidelines and best practices as recommended by the CDC.  As of now, no specific date has been set for the reopening of churches in our diocese.  Due to the large number of high-risk persons in our congregations, the decision to reopen will be based on scientific data as well as the words of our Lord to “love our neighbor as we love ourselves.”   In the meantime, we will continue to video record the Sunday Eucharist and email it to you late Saturday afternoon.  We will also occasionally email a list of congregations that are live streaming their services. Several folks have told me they are enjoying watching our recorded service while also “visiting” other congregations who are live streaming their services.

As always, please call on me if I can be helpful during this difficult time.  As I’ve mentioned before, I am available by cell phone or for “socially distant” visits through your storm door or outside on your porch or in your yard.

I pray for our congregation every day and ask that you do the same.  Also, please pray for Bishop Benfield as he considers when and how to reopen Episcopal congregations in our diocese.
