A letter Father Russ ask me to send out follows:
10 January 2015
Dear friends at St. John’s,
I will always be deeply grateful for your love and generosity during my time as your Interim Rector.  From the beginning, we knew we had something precious, not only to preserve but to build on:  a community of faith, with roots going back 160 years, called to offer our Lord :true and laudable service” in worship, in care for each other, and in outreach.  I appreciate your supporting me from “day one,” both as a leader and as a friend.  Your devotion to God and to St. John’s has impressed me greatly.  Margaret Kirk Denton was right, I think, when she observed that what is happening at St. John’s is “nothing short of a miracle.”  Focusing on what God has done and is continuing to do in your midst, and thanking God for it, will lead, I am sure, to more miracles.
I will never forget Epiphany 2015.  Our worship and our communion with God and each other truly gave a foretaste of eternal bliss.  Many thanks for honoring me with such an elegant party, warm sentiments (expressed even in song!) and generous gifts.  You beautifully conveyed God’s love to me.  In God’s book, my friends, that is a mark of great success.
Blessings on you as we pursue our callings, with God’s help.  You are forever dear to me, and you will be in my prayers,
