St. John’s Episcopal Church - Sunday, February 23, 2020

“I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, to the
observance of a
Holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance;
by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and
meditating on God's holy Word.”—Book of Common Prayer

These words are from the Ash Wednesday liturgy that will take place on February 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the St. John’s chapel.  We have several things planned this year to encourage your observance of a “Holy Lent.” They include:

  1. February 25: Shrove Tuesday Pancake Feast 5-7 p.m.
  2. February 26: Ash Wednesday Service 5:30 p.m.
  3. February 28: Supper and Program with Bro. Jim Woodrum 6 p.m.
  4. February 29: Breakfast and Program with Bro. Jim 9:30 a.m.
  5. Wednesdays in Lent, Eucharist, Soup Supper and Program at 5:30 p.m.  (5 Wednesdays beginning March 4)
  6. Mondays in Lent, Evening Prayer at 5:30 beginning March 2

I look forward to our shared Lenten journey that begins with a somber reminder of our mortality on Ash Wednesday and concludes with joyful Alleluia’s on Easter Sunday.

Blessings, Fr. Ray+

The Wise Men Went By Another Way

Beginning Our Lenten Pilgrimage

A morning workshop with Br. Jim Woodrum, SSJE of

The Society of Saint John the Evangelist

Saturday, February 29, 2020

9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

DESCRIPTION: During the season of Epiphany, we studied how Jesus’ divinity was made manifest to his family, friends, disciples, and all who encountered him. As we begin our Lenten pilgrimage, we are asked to consider how this meeting with Christ changes us and how we might better live the abundant life that Jesus promises. In this workshop, we will explore how our Lenten disciplines lead us to Easter life and then onward into Christian discipleship.

980-2 LEADER: Brother Jim Woodrum, SSJE is a member of the Society of St. John the Evangelist, a religious order for men in the Episcopal Church.  Br. Jim serves the SSJE as the Director of Vocations as well as the Guesthouse brother. When he is away from his desk (and that "Office" in the Chapel), he enjoys cooking southern cuisine, exploring different neighborhoods in Boston, and has a keen interest in craft beer.
