St. John’s Episcopal Church - Sunday, May 20, 2018

From Fr. Ray+

This coming Sunday, May 20, is Pentecost Sunday.   The scriptures, music and collects for the day all point us to the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church on this day.   Elizabeth Garcia will be making her last visit to St. John’s this week, since she will be moving to New England in the near future.  We have been blessed by Elizabeth’s past visits to St. John’s and look forward to having her with us one last time.   Following worship, we will gather in the undercroft for lunch.  Our luncheon is not a potluck, so all you need to bring is yourself.   Also, we will be celebrating Marzell Moody’s graduation from Central High School.  Marzell was confirmed as a member of St. John’s earlier this year when the bishop made his annual pastoral visit.  Marzell is a fine young man who has endeared himself to our St. John’s family.   I hope you will join us as we celebrate this milestone in his life.

Congratulations to Alex Mouritsen (son of Elena Hinderer) on his graduation from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering.

Earlier this year we gathered for lunch after worship and discussed those things we value and appreciate about St. John’s Church.  Based on that discussion, we have created three teams that will consider how we focus our future ministries on those three dimensions of our life together. Several folks have agreed to serve on each team, but others are certainly welcome. If you would like to be part of one, or more, of these teams, please let Fr. Ray know. The three teams are:

  • Worship and Liturgy
  • Mission and Outreach
  • Discipleship and Spiritual Development

Blessings, Fr. Ray+
