St. John’s Episcopal Church - Sunday, June 18, 2017

From Fr. Ray +

As I mentioned in my sermon last Sunday, a few of our members came up with an idea to reach out to our immediate neighborhood with a back-to-school supper and school supplies distribution. I believe this a wonderful idea and a great way to get to know our neighbors and share the love of Christ with them.  At our next meeting on Monday, June 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the church, we will decide on specifics such as date, time and exactly who, and how many children and family members will be invited to this event. Volunteers are needed to assist with gathering school supplies and preparing a simple supper. Please let me know if you want to be part of this outreach to our neighbors. In our Gospel lesson last week we heard the call of Jesus to go into all the world with the good news of Jesus.  Again, as I said in my sermon last week, we don’t have to travel abroad to be in mission. “All the world” includes those at our doorstep.

Change in Summer Mid-Week Eucharist Schedule

Starting this week, we will have only one mid-week Eucharist. The Eucharist on Wednesdays at 5:30 will remain unchanged during the summer months.  We are discontinuing the Thursday noon service for the summer. The service on the first Wednesday of every month will continue to be a Healing Service.

I am leading a six-week class on The Apostles’ Creed each Wednesday, 6:15 p.m. The Apostles’ Creed is an excellent summary of our Christian faith.  The subjects of each class will be as follows:

  • Week 4:  The Church and the Communion of the Saints
  • Week 5:  The Forgiveness of Sins
  • Week 6:  The Resurrection of the Body

Each class will include a brief video by Rev. Adam Hamilton. We have used his material before and found it both inspiring and challenging.

Please mark your calendar for our next Fellowship Activity on Sunday, July 30.  Following worship we will beat the summer heat with a lite lunch and homemade ice cream at the church. More details will be provided as we get closer to the date.

Blessings, Fr. Ray+
