St. John’s Episcopal Church - Sunday, May 21, 2017

From Fr. Ray +

Last week I had lunch with our area’s Young Life Director, Mr. Trent Williams.  Young Life is a Christian student organization dedicated to bringing Christ to youth in Helena-West Helena.  This positive Christian ministry provides guidance, hope and a solid Christian message to young people who might not be hearing it any place else in their life.  One of the highlights of the year for many of these students is the Young Life Summer Camp in the North Georgia Mountains.  This year there are around twelve students from Central High School who are signed up for camp. One of these students is Marzell Moody, who is in church at St. John’s almost every Sunday.  I am inviting those in our congregation who can do so to pitch in to cover Marzell’s camp costs, which comes to around $700.  That amount includes travel, meals enroute, camp fees and a little money for the camp store.  Royce and I will be contributing $50 toward helping Marzell go to camp. Will you help, too? If we collect more than is needed to cover Marzell’s costs, we will contribute it toward helping other students who are signed up for camp.  Blessings, Fr. Ray

Sunday, May 21st we will honor high school graduate Katherine Wright with a reception and meal following worship.  Special music will be provided by oboist/clarinetist Mr. Drew Spencer-Bell.

I will be leading a six-week class on The Apostles’ Creed beginning Wednesday, May 17 at 6:15 p.m. and Thursday, May 18 at 10:30 a.m. These times allow those who so desire to attend both the class and one of the mid-week Eucharists.  I will also be leading the same class during the Adult Sunday School at 9:15 on Sunday mornings.  The Apostles’ Creed is an excellent summary of our Christian faith.  The subjects of each class will be as follows:

  • Week 1:  God
  • Week 2:  Jesus Christ
  • Week 3: The Holy Spirit
  • Week 4:  The Church and the Communion of the Saints
  • Week 5:  The Forgiveness of Sins
  • Week 6:  The Resurrection of the Body

Each class will include a brief video by Rev. Adam Hamilton. We have used his material before and found it both inspiring and challenging.          Blessings, Fr. Ray+
