Pastoral News:

What Do You Love About St. John’s?

The month of October will be Stewardship Month at St. John’s.  Each year members and friends of the congregation are invited to share ways in which St. John’s is a blessing to them or reasons they give financially to support the mission and ministry of the church.  You are invited to submit your blessings and reasons for being supportive to the church office.  With your permission we will print them in our October newsletters.  These submissions can be mailed to the church office, email to, dropped off at the church office, or placed in an envelope in the offering plate on Sunday morning.                                                                                                  ________________________________________

Blessing of the Animals on October 16

As we have done the last few years, St. John’s will join with First United Methodist Church for the Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 16 from 3 to 5 p.m.  One BIG change this year is that the event will take place at the Helena West-Helena Humane Society facility at 9518 Phillips 300 Road. (Old Little Rock Road.) All animals and their humans are invited!

The Blessing of the Animals Event is usually held on or near the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, which falls on October 6.  The event is being held a little later this year due to the Blues Festival.  In the spirit of St. Francis, it is hoped that holding this year’s event at the Humane Society will serve to remind all of us of the many homeless animals in our community as well as provide opportunity for those who may be considering adopting a new pet.  Fr. Ray

Please keep the following in your prayers:  Buddy Wheeler, Buddy Byrd, Carol Jennings, Sam Harris, Jim Howe, Jr., Susan Gibbs Worrell, Jeffrey Mink, Richard Hargraves, Elena Hinderer, Sharon Hinderer, Belinda Hyslip, Walter Morris, Sr., Pat Wheeler, Dr. Marion McDaniel, Lena Cunningham, Sarah Myers, Donna Drewry (Marjie’s sister-in-law), Jimmy Webster, and Carol Jennings.

Outreach News:

FAMILY BURNED OUT OF HOME:  The family who was burned out of their home has expressed their sincere appreciation for the all the assistance received from St. John’s.  Things are coming together for them and they are starting to get back on their feet.  One thing they could really use is a small chest of drawers for their two sons to share.  If you have one you could donate, or would be willing to purchase one at a local thrift shop, please let me know.  Again, Thanks for Caring! ---Fr. Ray

The Samaritan’s Purse:  Donations that will fit in a shoe box can be placed in the basket by front door.  This month will be clothes and toys for boys and girls 10-14.

Angels of Grace and Anchor Mission ministries: The item from their wish list this week is paper towels.  Plastic tubs for each are on the stair landing just outside the chapel.

Humane Society of the Delta:  Donation needed is dog & puppy food.  Their plastic tub is also on the stair landing.

Grace Food Pantry – plastic bags go in the labeled container in the narthex.
