Pastoral News:

What Do You Love About St. John’s?

The month of October will be Stewardship Month at St. John’s.  Each year members and friends of the congregation are invited to share ways in which St. John’s is a blessing to them or reasons they give financially to support the mission and ministry of the church.  You are invited to submit your blessings and reasons for being supportive to the church office.  With your permission we will print them in our October newsletters.  These submissions can be mailed to the church office, email to, dropped off at the church office, or placed in an envelope in the offering plate on Sunday morning.

Blessing of the Animals on October 16

As we have done the last few years, St. John’s will join with First United Methodist Church for the Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 16 from 3 to 5 p.m.  One BIG change this year is that the event will take place at the Helena West-Helena Humane Society facility at 9518 Phillips 300 Road. (Old Little Rock Road.) All animals and their humans are invited!

The Blessing of the Animals Event is usually held on or near the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, which falls on October 6.  The event is being held a little later this year due to the Blues Festival.  In the spirit of St. Francis, it is hoped that holding this year’s event at the Humane Society will serve to remind all of us of the many homeless animals in our community as well as provide opportunity for those who may be considering adopting a new pet.  Fr. Ray

Please keep the following in your prayers:

In preparation for our Hundredth Birthday Celebration we want to spruce up our nursery for the little ones who will be attending with their parents.  The Birthday Committee would like to place some new toys in the nursery.  Suggested items include dolls, toy cars and trucks, toy shopping cart, push and pull toys and large-piece puzzles.  Other items are welcome, too. The committee is requesting new, not used toys.

All church members and friends are asked to RSVP for the Hundredth Birthday Celebration and Dinner on Saturday, October 22.  Your RSVP will help the committee in ordering meals for the delicious catered dinner that will be served following the worship service.  You can RSVP by calling Marjie at the church office at 338-8115 or emailing her at
