St. John’s Episcopal Church             Sunday, March 20, 2016

ADULT EDUCATION: No class Sunday March 20 or March 27 and will resume on April 3.

WORSHIP:   Palm Sunday, March 20, begins at 10:00am in the Methodist Church garden for the Blessing of the Palms.  Immediately following at 10:30 we return to St. John’s for the Holy Eucharist Rite I, with Canon Jason Alexander from Little Rock as our celebrant
READINGS for this Sunday are:  Isaiah 50:4-9; Psalm 31:9-16; Philippians 2:5-11;
 Luke 22:14-23:56; Luke 23:1-49.
Easter Lilies order forms will be at the back of the chapel this week and the church on Sunday. 
Be sure to fill your Mite Boxes. These will be collected on Easter and the children of the parish will bring them forward during offertory.
Evening Prayer is at 5:30 in the chapel for Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday and Holy Wednesday.
Altar Guild will meet Saturday, March 19th to make palm crosses and polish.
Altar Guild will meet Saturday, March 26th to prepare the sanctuary for Holy Easter.
Pastoral Visitors:  Susan CarterThis ministry duty runs from Sunday to the next Sunday.  Each week the pastoral visitor or visitors will visit the members of St. John’s that are either sick or shut-in.
St. John’s Good Samaritans (ECW):  Please feel free to call Maureen Jones (404-697-7197) or Jeannie Turley (870-816-6387) if you are in need of some help with errands or transportation or food, or if you would just like some company.  These and other members of the church have graciously offered their time to assist anyone needing help.  If you would like to volunteer services, please let Maureen or Jeannie know.

The Samaritan’s Purse:  Donations that will fit in a shoe box can be placed in the basket by front door.  Needed for March are Clothes for girls 10 - 14, age appropriate and nothing to revealing.  Dresses, tops, pants (short or long), bras, panties, pajamas, slippers and shoes
Angels of Grace The item from their wish list this week is cleaning supplies for the women’s shelter. Please place you items in the plastic tub at the stair landing just outside the chapel coming up from the undercroft.
Anchor Mission Ministry Box: This week’s donation item is cleaning supplies.  Their donation box is located off the chapel in the stairwell next to the Angels of Grace box.
Humane Society of the Delta:  Donations needed are cat litter, laundry detergent and large bath towels.  A large donation tub has been placed with the others off the chapel stairwell or you can call 870-753-2119 or 870-995-2379 and they will pick up your donation.  You may also take your donation directly to the shelter, 9518 Phillips 300 Rd. between the hours of 7-10 am or 2-5 pm.

The Helena United Methodist Church will have Lenten Listening services Wednesday at 12:00 Noon, March 23rd.  The speaker is Amy Barron.  Bring a sandwich and the ladies of the church will furnish the beverage and dessert.

Saturday, March 19th at 9:30 all altar guild members meet to polish for Easter and make Palm crosses.
March 20th, Palm Sunday begins at 10:00 am in the Methodists’ garden for the blessing of the Palms with our neighboring churches (First Presbyterian Church and Helena United Methodist Church) and continues at 10:30 with Holy Eucharist at St. John’s.
Monday, March 21st; Tuesday, March 22nd; Wednesday, March 23rd Evening Prayer at 5:30 in the chapel.
Thursday, March 24th, Maundy Thursday service with the stripping of the altar, at 5:30 in the main sanctuary with Rev. Bill Burks from Humboldt, TN officiating. (All altar guild members needed)
Friday, March 25th at noon the Good Friday Liturgy with Bill Burks officiating.
Friday, March 25th at 5:30, we walk the Stations of the Cross.
Saturday, March 26th at 10:00 all altar guild members will meet to polish and prepare the altar for Easter.
Sunday, March 27th at 9:45 the flowering of the cross in the main sanctuary followed by the High Holy Easter Mass with Holy Baptism of Waylon Woods Pittman at 10:30 with Rev. Louis Hayden from Germantown officiating.

All Easter Lily donations must be turned in no later than Sunday, March 20th to be printed in the Easter Bulletins.
